2011 – 2012 Green Student Interns


Taylor Cook
PowerSave Campus Intern

Taylor Cook is a native of Southaven, MS. She graduated with a degree a public policy leadership and three minors in spanish, sociology, and environmental studies. Since her freshman year, Taylor has been an an avid leader in environmental student groups Campus for Clean Energy and Students for a Green Campus. In 2011, Taylor received the Udall Scholarship, a scholarship awarded to students who have shown considerable dedication to the environment on their college campus. She also served on the Green Fund Committee during the spring of 2013. Taylor is highly involved in other sustainability networks across the southeast including Mississippi Alumni and Students for Sustainability (MASS) and the Southern Energy Network (SEN). She currently resides in Washington D.C.


Emily Corban

PowerSave Campus Intern

Emily Corban is a native of Tupelo, Mississippi. She was part of the PowerSave campus team in the Office of Sustainability her junior and senior year at Ole Miss. She earned her degree in Public Policy Leadership with a minor in Ennironmental Studies. During her time at Ole Miss, she studied abroad in South Korea in the summer of 2012. While in South Korea, she took a class about sustainability and policy. Emily is also an alumni of Delta Gamma. As a member of the PowerSave campus team until 2013, she helped plan and implement projects on campus to obtain measurable energy savings for the University, as well as raised awareness about energy efficiency. Emily is currently studying Urban Planning at the University of Memphis.


Kay Kay DeRossette

Game Day Recycling Manager

Kay Kay is a native of Vicksburg, MS.  She was a Green Student Intern from 2011 until 2014. While at Ole Miss she served on the ASB as director of the First Year Experience,  orientation leader, director of Freshman Council, coordinator of Lambda Sigma Community Service and president of Mortar Board. She was also a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Order of Omega, and Kappa Delta. She was inducted into the 2014 Ole Miss hall of fame and was Miss Ole Miss.  While working in the Office of Sustainability she increased volunteer opportunities with the Green Grove initiative and established sorting opportunities at Oxford Recycling.  She hopes to see Ole Miss reach a 50% diversion rate on game days in the grove.  Kay Kay graduated in May 2014 with a degree in exercise science. She is currently pursuing her Master’s of Higher Education with an emphasis in sustainability at the University of Arkansas.  She is a graduate assistant in the Strengths Based Initiatives Office.


Jennie Fan

PowerSave Campus Intern

Jennie was a Green Student Intern from 2011 until 2012 and worked on the PowerSave Campus Team. She graduated in May 2013 with a degree in biochemistry and is currently earning her PhD in chemistry at Ole Miss.

Haley Kesterson
Game Day Recycling Coordinator

Haley is a native of Hot Springs, Arkansas. She graduated from the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College with Cum Laude honors majoring in psychology with a double minor in English and environmental studies. In addition to multiple extra curricular activities, Haley served as the Game Day Recycling Coordinator for the programs’ first two seasons. Haley wrote her honors thesis on her work in the grove, “An Investigation of the Green Grove Initiative”. She hopes future efforts use her study as a basis for increasing diversion rates on game days. Haley studied environmental science abroad at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Sippy Downs, Australia for five months during her college career. She hopes to travel and continue studying environmental issues beyond a university setting.
