Green Grove Initiative – How to Recycle on Gameday

Recycling in the Grove and Circle

Tailgaters can place their plastic bottles and aluminum cans within designated recycling bins located throughout the Grove and Circle. Only plastics #1 and #2 are recyclable. To find out what type of plastic the container is, look on the bottom for the recycling symbol and a number.

In addition to utilizing these recycling bins , you can now recycle at your individual tent. Here is how it works:

  1. Take a plastic recycling bag provided at one of the two conveniently located dispensers. One dispenser is located in front of the student union and the other is by the statue in the Circle.  Grab a bag from a Green Grove Volunteer or use a clear stream bin.
  2. Place plastic bottles (#1 and #2), aluminum cans, and Solo Cups  in the green bag at your tent . (Remember no food, food containers, or glass)
  3. After cleaning your tent area, simply leave the bag at your tent location. We take care of the rest!

Recycling in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium

Inside the stadium, plastic water and soft drink bottles (plastics #1 or #2) are recyclable. No glass or aluminum containers are allowed or used inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, so the recycling bins collect plastic water and soft drink bottles only. The commemorative cups are currently not recyclable (Plastic #5) and should be considered a reusable container that we encourage everyone to take home with them following the game. In the stadium, clear stream recycling bins are positioned throughout the stadium near each major entrance and concession stands areas.

Solo Cups

During the 2013 football season, we began to recycle Solo cups (plastic #5) through TerraCycle. Solo cups are the only plastic #5 containers we are able to recycle.

Even though we can recycle these cups in the Grove, we highly encourage using aluminum cans, plastic bottles, or reusables above Solo cups due to the low benefits of the recycled material.

Non-Recyclable Items

  • Styrofoam
  • Glass
  • Plastics #3-7
