2010 – 2011 Green Student Interns


Taylor Carnes

Water Conservation and Management

Taylor Carnes is a native of Memphis, TN, and earned her degree in geological engineering. She was an intern in the Office of Sustainability her sophomore year. During her time at Ole Miss, Taylor was an active member on campus as well as in the Oxford community. While she was a student, she conducted research for a water waste management program that led to the installation of new hydration stations across the Oxford campus. These new stations have created an efficient way for students to abandon the use of plastic water bottles in favor of environmentally friendly reusable containers. Outside of the GSIP program, she also served as a member of Associated Student Body and Students for a Green Campus.


Abby Olivier

Eco-Champion Intern

Abby Olivier interned in the Office of Sustainability her junior year at Ole Miss. She is a native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and earned her degree in public policy leadership with a minor in southern studies. She was a member of the Trent Lott Leadership Institute and The Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College. Fall 2010 was Abby’s first semester in the GSIP, her main focus was proposing and implementing the “Eco Champion”. A program designed to empower Resident Assistants to become a “green leader” within their residence halls. Abby volunteered with the Leap Frog program and The Exchange Club in Oxford. Her senior year at Ole Miss, she served at Vice President of the Associated Student Body. Abby was also an ambassador for Ole Miss Ambassadors and an Orientation Leader. She was also Vice-President of Operations in her sorority, Kappa Delta.


Cory Washington

E-Waste, Alternative Transportation Initiatives

Cory Washington is a native of Madison, MS. He was an intern in the office his junior year at Ole Miss. He majored in communication sciences and disorder major with an emphasis in speech language pathology. During his time at the University, Cory was extinsively involved. He served as the Director of Student Services for Sustainability for the Associated Student Body. He was also a part of the Oxford University Transit System Board of Commissioners, where he had the title of the Student Liaison. Additionally, Cory worked with Bike Give Back, Rebel Pedals, and e-waste alternatives.
